In my life these past few weeks…
Last week, The Husband took most of the kids camping. Miss Optimism, Dancing Queen and I were the only ones here and it was strangely quiet, but it was not boring! We had so many appointments and were busy with projects all week. I reorganized and painted the playroom, worked on organizing the homeschool room (still a work in progress but pictures to come as soon as I’m done!), made 40 activity bags for Dancing Queen for this school year, and worked on choosing and ordering curriculum.
I am not completely done planning, but I have chosen most of what we are going to do this coming year.
The Ferrari got a new job working for two plumbing companies. He is considering doing an apprenticeship and seems quite excited. He and I have been able to spend a bit more time together the past few weeks and it’s been really great!
Fred got his Learner’s Permit! I haven’t taken him out for any driving practise yet, but it’s exciting news! He also has an additional job one or two evenings a week. I can’t believe how old he and The Ferrari are getting…time just refuses to slow down to appease me!
So, the slight bad news is that it turns out that Granola Girl has asthma. We are hoping that it is not severe, but we are somewhat apprehensive because of Miss Optimism’s severe lung condition and the fact that they are biological sisters. We are encouraged that her symptoms are not very intense and she is already 7 and just being diagnosed now.
The very, very good news is that there have been some things put in place in recent weeks to help our family. I will share more once everything is in place, but I can share now what has been put in already…
We now have a night nurse 3 nights a week for Miss Optimism! She requires her medicine every 2 hours or every 3 hours or sometimes even every hour and a half depending on how she is. Using the example of every 2 hours, that means that I set an alarm and get up every two hours and then have to stay awake for a minimum of 20 minutes so that I can turn her machine off (falling asleep by accident burns out the motor and is a very costly mistake that I have made in the past). I then can get a maximum of an hour and forty minutes of sleep before I have to get up and repeat this again. But that is not actually the biggest problem. The part that really tires me out is that I don’t truly sleep in between because I always have one ear open in case she has trouble in between. As I’m sure you can imagine, doing this every Spring, Summer, and Fall for the past four years, I have been functioning on very little sleep. This will be a huge relief! They actually offered us 5 nights but we are trying 3 to see how it goes (it’s kind of strange having someone in your house awake while you are sleeping!) This is being funded entirely by Pediatric Home Care, so it is such a blessing!
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Well of course most of the family was in B.C. with The Husband’s extended family last week.
We went a lot of places and saw a lot of people, but mostly appointments…tutoring for Miss Optimism and Snuggle Puppy, speech therapy for Granola Girl and Dancing Queen, therapy for Dancing Queen, psych. ed. assessments (many hours worth) for Dancing Queen, respiratory clinic for Granola Girl, respiratory therapist for Miss Optimism, pulmonary doc for Miss Optimism, meetings with specialists, social workers, and home care team.

Take the five nights my dear friend! You deserve it. I hope you get some more sleep in the very near future.
Blessings, Dawn
I agree, if 5 nights are available, take them!
Woo hoo!!! that is excellent news. So happy for you!!
Michelle
Great news!! You need the sleep, honey, even with your incredible amounts of energy (you get way more done in a day then I do in a week) you need to get your sleep. If they will give you five, I’d take them up on it too! After four years, there is a lot of sleeping to catch up on.
Glad to hear they had a good time in BC. I bet it was weird not having them all around.
Sweet girl! So happy and hopeful for you to get some REST! And I’m with the rest…go for the five nights:)
