In my life this week…bracelets! The kids and I have been making bracelets…friendship bracelets, hemp bracelets, beaded bracelets, braided bracelets. Just for fun.
I have exciting last minute news that has my head spinning. I am going to Beech Retreat! As in one week from now, I will be in Florida meeting strangers and people I have only “met” online at an amazing homeschool blogging conference with speakers like Michael Hyatt and Crystal Paine! Somebody pinch me because a week ago, this wasn’t even on my radar and now I’ve got to start packing! I’ll write more later about how far out of my comfort zone this is and how it’s bringing up all my insecurities…
P.S. In case you’ve ever wondered what I do all day, please read What Do You Do All Day?
In our homeschool this week…Last Sunday, Miss Optimism, Einstein, Snuggle Puppy, and Granola Girl were in their first ever piano recital. It was adorable! I was really proud of each one of them.
We were doing a winter theme and did all kinds of fun activities, crafts, outdoor play, fun food, and a sensory bin. I will do a whole post on that next week and include instructions and pictures.
In Story of the World, we were learning about the Rus (early Russia) and we did an activity to accompany the lesson where we boiled our eggs with onion skins. The kids thought the results were pretty cool!
The kids watched the Nest Leonardo de Vinci movie and did the accompanying workbook. They also tried to create their own replicas of some of his most famous pieces.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…Art class – this week, the kids made clay Valentine’s boxes. No pictures yet as they still have to be fired and we won’t get them until the week before Valentine’s day.
Homeschool Club at the library – there was a great turnout this week! The focus this year is going to be on giving. This week, the kids all made a keychain, bracelet or necklace to give away to someone to brighten their day. They also chose a craft activity for craft kids they are going to be making next month for the kids at the local women’s shelter.
I’m cooking…my freezer meals! I love having them! This week, we ate salmon with creamy dill sauce, black bean and sweet potato quesadillas, chicken tortilla soup, pizza buns, and soy ginger salmon with wild rice. Thank you to the me who had the energy to make those freezer meals a few weeks ago and to my awesome neighbour Christie who was my partner in freezer meal madness!
I’m praying for…Right now, my prayers seem to be more of gratitude than of request. I am thankful that I have the husband that I have and that he loves me, that I have the kids that I have, that I have freezer meals made and don’t have to plan supper, that I have more than I need and more than I deserve.

The eggs came out so nice. I am happy for you on going to the beech retreat. That will be a special break for you.
Blessings, Dawn
Thanks Dawn!
What wonderful – and fun! – hands-on projects your family did this week. I like the idea of making the freezer meals. That would come in handy on so many days when homeschooling takes longer than expected or my energy is low. Thanks for the motivation!
My daughter would love to make bracelets and do the art classes with you guys! I am not bent towards art, so I drop that ball regularly
Yay for the blog conference!! I can’t wait to hear how it all went! If you don’t melt in FL
We visited there in January once and we were all so warm!!
I don’t like heat very much and of course at this time of year, I’m not used to it since I live in Canada, so I’m hoping that Florida isn’t too hot. Even if it is though, I’m still ridiculously excited to go!
I love seeing all your activities. I like the onion skin eggs. We have done that and the put designs on them with Sharpies. So much fun.
I so wish I had thought of the Sharpie thing! I guess now we have an excuse to do it again!
Man, I wish I could get to a spot where I could do freezer meals! I have the 30 days of meal pinned on my boards, and I plan on doing that when we get our return.
I am so thankful that I have a lot of counter space so my kitchen is great for doing freezer meals. It’s so great to have them so I hope you are able to make them.
Oh, my girls would love braiding bracelets. We might have to start that this week. Right after we finish all of our sewing projects. Thanks for the inspiration.
I had forgotten how relaxing it was making friendship bracelets out of embroidery thread when I was younger. I think I enjoyed this as much as the kids did!
If only I had the patience for freezer meals! If I could afford to I would hire someone to make a bunch for me!
At the time that I make freezer meals, it is an exhausting week and I wonder what I was ever thinking but then afterwards, having them is so awesome that after I have time to recover, I’m always game to make them again! I think you should give it a try.
