Weekly Wrap Up

In my life this week…
It has been a whirlwind! I started off the week here:

and am ending my week here:

From the beauty of Captiva, Florida where I was attending the BEECH retreat blogging conference extraordinaire to the breathtaking views of Panorama, British Columbia where we are celebrating The Husband’s birthday with our family…I am so blessed!

In our homeschool this week…
The kids are taking snowboarding and skiing lessons. We are doing some reading and review.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
The usual appointments for Miss Optimism’s injections and Dancing Queen’s therapy happened and then, we took a road trip to Panorama B.C.! We were so blessed to be able to borrow our friends’ 15 passenger van so that we all fit. The other blessing was that it is equipped with TVs and DVDs. This picture was snapped when we were still in our driveway and you can see how captivated the kids are with the movie!

Our kids have always been great travellers (although Dancing Queen and Snuggle Puppy have a tendency to feel car sick) and the scenery was unsurpassed in beauty! The roads were good and nearly empty and we made it here in only 6 hours. The trip through the Alberta Rockies is always filled with the most awe-inspiring views and glimpses of wildlife and this was no exception.

I’m cooking…
Since we’re in the mountains, I’m cooking lots of comfort foods like chilli and soups and pastas. I brought some with us from home already made and am making others here with groceries we brought. The kids are consuming a lot of hot chocolate and yesterday, I rewarded myself for filling out 7 forms for ski rentals by buying myself a London Fog!

I’m reading…
QBQ! The Question Behind the Question: Practising Personal Accountability at Work and in Life by John Miller

John was one of the speakers at the BEECH Retreat and he had a profound impact on me, particularly one sentence that he said, one truth that spoke to me at this time in my life. Here is a picture of John and I. I am holding one of his books and he is holding my book! It was such a pleasure to be able to meet him and his books are great reads. I am particularly enjoying the parenting one and will write more about that when I am finished it.

I’m grateful for…
God’s provision and God’s timing. There have been many times lately when He has known ahead of when I have known what I would need and has been there to provide it in unexpected ways. I am so thankful.

  1. Ooh, you were on Captiva Island???!! Mr Gwen and I went there during our early days of marriage! On our last day in Florida, I was finally overcome by the palm trees and the hot sand, and started believing that I was a surfing babe. I sashayed into a surf shop, purchased the only bikini I have ever worn, and happily trotted down to the beach (blinding everyone with my lily white skin). When we got to there, I realized that we were out of my SPF 45, but I figured that my husband’s SPF 8 would do the trick. (Note: I’m a redhead.) I roasted myself to the crispiest deep red you can imagine. Because we were traveling on Air Canada employee passes, we had to dress up to fly out the next day, and I had to wear my new bikini under my business clothes, because my skin was so badly burned that any other undergarments hurt unbearably! One day I’m going to go back… but this time with extra sunscreen, and a Mom-appropriate bathing suit. Good times! :)

    • That’s a pretty funny story Gwen! I can picture it! The resort we stayed at (SouthSeasIslandResort) was awesome and so family oriented. If you ever go back, I would highly recommend them.

  2. God’s timing in Sobey’s! Praying for more winks from HIM for you and for me!!!

  3. What a great week! I’m so glad for you to have had this season of refreshment and encouragement. Can’t wait to read all these posts you keep hinting about. chuckle.

  4. Love the contrasts! Beautiful the snow and the snow white beach :0) And I love the comfort foods of winter, I eat so much better when it’s cold outside!

  5. Sidetracked Sarah says:

Wow, what a difference. I think I was one of the people standing on the beach in that first picture. That was a cool idea to get a picture with John and the books! love it!
