We do a lot of unit studies in our homeschool. I try to plan that they correspond with what is going on in the particular season we are in or with what is going on in the world, such as planning to study the Olympics during the time of the actual Olympic games, or to go along with an area of interest. Planning out an entire year of unit studies on a traditional calendar doesn’t work all that well for me because I can’t get an overall visual and see where I need to fill in the gaps or where I already have something planned. I personally also like to keep our regular calendar for appointments and scheduling so adding homeschool unit studies to it would only confuse an already cluttered calendar.
What’s a girl to do?!
How NeuYear Big Calendar works for unit study planning…
At a glance, I can see the whole year and plan accordingly. I can easily see what unit we will be studying when without having to flip through a wall calendar or day planner.
The dry erase calendar works perfectly for us because the weeks we set aside for unit studies are a guideline. There are some unit studies that we get really into and are able to find a lot of material for and they end up taking longer than the one or two weeks that I have set aside for them. With the dry erase feature of NeuYear, I can easily adjust our weeks if we need to take longer or even fit an extra unit study in if something comes up that the kids really want to learn about.
Benefits of a NeuYear Big Calendar…
It has both a vertical and horizontal orientation. Just by flipping it over and using the reverse, you can change the orientation. This allow you to fit the space that you need. I chose to use the horizontal side as it fit best on the corkboard in our classroom.
Having such a large calendar right in our homeschool classroom allows the kids to also see at a glance what units are coming up and to see things such as when we are taking our Christmas break from school. This will hopefully cut down on the number of times they ask me about this!
There are no breaks in between the months. This feature allows for the weeks to run together naturally and is especially helpful in planning weekly such as using the calendars for unit study planning.
